JOB SUMMARY: The TechnicalSpecialist has the overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, andevaluation of all technical and/or operational activities in SpecimenProcessing. Responsible for performing duties so as to operate the labwith the highest quality safety and integrity, and in an efficient, economicaland businesslike manner are of utmost importance.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Documents all competency testingassuring completeness and timeliness, and ensures that the appropriatecorrective actions are developed and implemented, as needed. 2. Tracks the department monthlymetrics. Reviews metrics with Specimen Service Supervisor and helpsdesign and implement processes to demonstrate continued improvement. 3. Maintain the laboratory clientdatabase, ensuring accurate data entry and a reduction in accountproliferation. Assures timely updates to database as needed. 4. Assists Supervisors inpreparedness for In-house, corporate, and accrediting agency inspections.5. Observes performance of technicalSOPs covering each work station once annually. Dissociations from thewritten procedure are documented and quality improvement actions are determinedin conjunction with the department manager and supervisor. Follow-upobservations are made to assure improvements are in place.6. Tracks requisition data entryerrors, provides metrics on a monthly basis, recommends and implementsimprovements as needed. 7. Works directly with theMedical Director, Data Management and electronic reporting personnel to assurethat patient data is properly represented on all report formats for testingfrom all sources (in-house, remote laboratory sites and referral laboratories.8. Performs system tests of datatransmission across within-laboratory electronic interfaces to assureaccuracy. Works with IT and technical staff to test new interfaces,and to ensure that any interface issues are resolved in a timely manner.9. Maintains adequate phlebotomysupplies, shipping kits and requisitions, orders additional inventory asneeded. Conducts monthly inventory counts, enters data inPeopleSoft. 10. Reviews equipment maintenancerecords on a monthly basis.11. Participates on the LaboratoryOperations Managements QA/Compliance team.additional duties will include:
Monitoring laboratory billing charge master and reviewing daily charge reports for accuracy
oversight of laboratory safety program
assistance with oversight of point of care testing Other: PC applicationskills in Microsoft Office including Excel and Access.
